The Norwegian rune poem

Sól er landa ljóme; lúti ek helgum dóme.

The sun is the light of the lands; I bow before the holy judgement.

The Norwegian rune poem is from the 1200s and has one verse per rune. The original is in the public domain; the translations are our own.

Commentary

Once again a Christian closing word on a pre-Christian image. At these latitudes the sun needs no defence.
