The Norwegian rune poem
Ræið kveða rossom væsta; Reginn sló sværðet bæzta.
The Norwegian rune poem is from the 1200s and has one verse per rune. The original is in the public domain; the translations are our own.
Commentary
The second line points straight into the Saga of the Volsungs: Reginn is the smith who reforges the sword Gram for Sigurd. The rune poems assume you know the stories.
