The Norwegian rune poem

Hagall er kaldastr korna; Kristr skóp hæimenn forna.

Hail is the coldest of grains; Christ shaped the ancient world.

The Norwegian rune poem is from the 1200s and has one verse per rune. The original is in the public domain; the translations are our own.

Commentary

Note the second line. The Norwegian rune poem was written down in Christian times, and Christ stands in the middle of it without explanation. Runes were in use long after the conversion.
